Program Description:

The Department of Media and Instructional Technology offers a M.Ed. degree in media education. The major in media is designed to prepare school library media specialists and instructional technologists at the graduate level. The master's program required 36 semester hours and consists of two program tracks: 1) media specialist with certification and 2) instructional technology with no exit certification. Students who want certification and are not eligible for teaching certificates may need additional hours. Both tracks require 3 hours in educational psychology, 6 hours in foundations, and 3 hours in research. Track one candidates must take 24 hours in media and track two candidates must take 24 hours in media and instructional technology.
The Ed.S. degree in media provides advanced preparation for media specialists (track 1) and instructional technology trainers and/or coordinators (track 2). The program consists of 27 semester hours and builds on students' master's work to provide the candidate with higher levels of knowledge and skills in research, media, and technology. The track one program consists of 3 hours in psychology, 3 hours in foundations, 12 hours of media, 6 hours in research, and 3 hours of a media and technology elective. The track two program includes 3 hours in psychology, 3 hours in foundations, 6 hours in media and instructional technology, 6 hours in research, and 9 hours of media and technology electives.
