Program Description:
Along with the taught component, this degree scheme contains a substantial research component comprising at least 50% of the working year. This involves research carried out solely by the student. The student has the opportunity to progress a research project linked to an industrially relevant problem under joint supervision of an academic and a participating industrial researcher.
Modules: Two week taught modules in the following areas: (optional/compulsory): Systems Engineering, Innovation in Product Development for Telecommunications, Client Server Programming in Java, Multimedia Processing and Communications, Computer Networks, Photonic Networks, Communication Systems Modeling, Digital Communications, Wireless Systems, Wireless Communications, Microwave Transmission, Photonic components and their applications and Lasers.
In addition the MRes project includes a series of lectures that deal with research techniques including research methodologies, philosophy and principles, ethics, experimental design, managing research project progress, literature search and information retrieval, data analysis and presentation, technical and scientific writing.
