Program Information
Program Description:
The French section of the Department of Languages and Literature at the University of Utah offers its students an innovative forum for the study of literature and culture while also preparing students to be effective teachers in the 21st century. Our approach, which reflects the emphasis of the American academy, is multicultural and interdisciplinary. Since the French section is a part of the Department of Languages and Literature, graduate students in French work alongside grad students in German, Spanish, and Comparative Literature. We draw our diverse population of graduate students from the United States, Europe and Africa and offer coursework in French and English. Our emphasis is literary and cultural studies from the middle ages to the 20th century. We are particularly interested in ways in which culture manifests itself in 'texts' [literary, nonliterary, artistic, cultural]. Grad students work closely with a team of faculty of diverse interests and approaches with various research specialization's. Most students also TA in our elementary language program for a stipend and tuition remission.
