Program Description:
The School of Environmental Sciences at the University of Ulster has a well established reputation for teaching high quality fully online programmes and registers some 250 students each year to its suite of postgraduate courses.
The PgDip/MSc course in Coastal Zone Management is part-time and offered by Distance Learning. It is accredited by the Institution of Environmental Sciences.
The objectives of the course are to investigate the physical, biological and cultural aspects of coasts as the foundation on which rational environmental management should be based. On this basis, it assesses current practice in coastal zone management in Europe and beyond and seeks through case studies, to impart an understanding of current problems and potential solutions.
The course draws upon the latest innovations and developments and, in particular, practical coastal zone management projects being undertaken by the Centre for Coastal and Marine Research of the School of Environmental Sceinces. The specific objectives of the course are to develop:
an understanding of how coasts 'work'
an understanding of the role of humans in coastal systems
a familiarity with past and current practice and ongoing developments in coastal zone management

Eligibility Requirements:
Entry to the PgDip:
Applicants must hold a degree in a science related subject or equivalent or demonstrate their ability to undertake the course through the accreditation of prior experiential learning.
Entry to the MSc:
Students initially register for the Postgraduate Diploma (PgDip). Students who complete the PgDip with an overall mark of 50% or higher can proceed to the MSc programme.
International Student Requirements:
English Language requirements - IELTS overall band 6.0 with no contributing band less than 5.5 or TOEFL 550 in the paper based-test.
