Program Description:
Students pursuing the Doctor of Psychology (PsyD), Clinical Specialization degree are gaining the knowledge and practical experiences required to become skilled mental health service providers.
The PsyD, Clinical Specialization program is designed to prepare students who wish to sit for licensure as clinical psychologists.
Clinical psychology training at University of the Rockies follows the Practitioner-Scholar Model. Students are able to practice their skills on campus in the Rockies Counseling Center, a community behavioral health clinic managed by the University. Additionally, all faculty members have earned doctoral degrees and are practicing in the field, and share their expertise as mentors.
Some doctoral candidates pursue an area of concentration to specialize their expertise. At University of the Rockies, optional areas of concentration include:
• Clinical Neuropsychology,
• Forensic/Correctional Psychology,
• Health Psychology,
• Marriage and Family Therapy, and
• Sport Neuroperformance.
Students with a bachelor’s degree may enter the program, earning a Master’s degree en route to their PsyD.

The PsyD, Clinical Specialization program is available on campus in Colorado Springs. The campus is housed in a historic railway station and contains classrooms, faculty and administrative offices, and an on-site behavioral health clinic, Rockies Counseling Center.
The Center provides low-cost psychotherapy to individuals, couples, and families who have no third-party insurance or have only a limited ability to pay. Students of the University use the Center for on-site training and to integrate their learning, under the supervision of licensed psychologists. Rockies Counseling Center includes a dozen therapy rooms, including rooms dedicated to child therapy, art therapy, group therapy, therapy using music, biofeedback, and neuropsychological evaluation.
LICENSURE INFORMATION
Upon completion of the Doctor of Psychology, Clinical Specialization, formal educational requirements for licensure as a psychologist in the State of Colorado will be fulfilled. The emphasis of the Doctor of Psychology, Clinical Specialization is actual clinical experience in psychotherapy.
The Doctor of Psychology, Clinical Specialization does not have specialized accreditation. In certain states, specialized accreditation is a requirement for state licensure. We strongly encourage students to research individual state licensure requirements.
