Degree Offered
Master of Science in Nursing-Nursing Systems Management
Format: Online
Program Description:
The University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) Master of Science in Nursing-Nursing Systems Management (MSN-NSM) degree program prepares graduates with academic and practical expertise for management positions in Nursing Administration. It is a 100% online program with interactive motivated Professional Nurse faculty skilled in the particular course subject matter. The capstone Residency is tailored to meet each student’s needs and program goals in a variety of health care settings. Students gain preparation in the management of human and non-human resources, outcomes management, financial management, and organizational operation, design, and culture. The major addresses the diversity of traditional and emerging roles in an evolving health care delivery system. Nursing Systems Management is grounded in the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses (AACN) Essentials of Master's Education and the American Nurses Association (ANA) Scope and Standards for Nurse Administrators.
Each student selects six graduate hours of electives to augment his/her personal interest area in Nursing Administration or Management. The UTEP College of Business Administration and Master of Arts in Leadership Studies are two suggested areas for students to select electives. However, graduate electives may be taken from any accredited university with The NSM advisor’s approval.
Graduates are eligible for national certification through the National League of Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC) in specialties that offer an examination.
In addition to the MSN degree, a 9-hour graduate certificate is available, the Health Care Leadership and Management Certificate (HCLM) can be completed as part of the degree program or as a stand-alone program.
Prior to enrolling in coursework, students must present evidence of current licensure and eligibility to practice in state of residence and complete other compliance requirements. Link to the Compliance Office for specific information. Link to the School of Nursing for more information about the graduate nursing programs at UTEP.
