Program Description:

The ESL Endorsement graduate coursework prepares teachers to work with children from all cultural and language backgrounds (speakers of Spanish, Vietnamese, etc.), and is required for those teachers in the state of Texas who are working with students in grades K-12 whose first language is not English. The ESL endorsement is highly marketable in the teaching field today. These ESL courses may be applied to a variety of programs including the master's degree and/or the Reading Specialist Certificate.

The courses are designed to provide a practical know-how essential to being effective in our multicultural and multilingual schools. Taught by professors with outstanding reputations, the ESL Endorsement program reflects the latest research about how children learn and develop in their acquisition of language. It is literacy-based, with an emphasis on real-world strategies for helping children become fluent English speakers. Each class is highly interactive, while still allowing a great deal of freedom.
