Program Information

Degree Offered

Master of Professional Accounting

Format: Campus

Program Description:

The Master of Professional Accounting (MPAcc) program provides the basis for professional accreditation with the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia (ICAA) and CPA Australia. It delivers knowledge, understanding and expertise in professional
accountancy and is suitable for students who have not studied accounting subjects previously. In the Faculty of Economics and Business we approach accounting from
a critical perspective and encourage a sense of enquiry. How is accounting practised? How should it be practised? We work closely with industry, commerce and the accounting profession to ensure the course content is up-to-date and relevant. The Discipline of Accounting has an outstanding international reputation for research, learning, development of resources, and journal publishing.

If you are looking for an in-depth understanding of accounting for use in an executive or managerial position, consider an Accounting major within the Master of Business or Master of Commerce.

Students fulfi lling the requirements for CPA or ICAA accreditation complete a defined set of elective units of study which are outlined in the Faculty Handbook or on our website. As an example, the following units may be needed to meet the accreditation requirements of CPA:
• Concepts of Australian Taxation
• Principles of Econometrics
• Economics for Accountants
• Business Information Systems
OR BIS Management

Most of the units of study are taught in the evening. Credit for foundation units (up to a maximum of 4) is assessed at the time of your application for admission.
