Program Description:
The University of St. Thomas offers a Master of Arts (M.A.) degree in Catholic Studies. The program provides a comprehensive, interdisciplinary understanding of Catholicism and the Catholic intellectual tradition. It explores the truth, beauty and vitality of Catholicism as it has permeated disciplines and cultures throughout time. Grounded by courses in theology, philosophy and history, the program explores Catholicism's contributions to world literature, art, music, architecture, law, political systems and the social and natural sciences. It encourages critical reflection and debate on contemporary and cross-cultural issues related to Catholicism, and it promotes dialogue between faith and reason that leads to a higher synthesis of knowledge. Students have the opportunity to design a unique course of study that meets their educational and personal goals. The program welcomes students of any faith. Students enter the program for a wide variety of reasons: to prepare for advanced study in the humanities; to enhance their professional careers in teaching, ministry, law, medicine, business, or other areas; and for personal enrichment.
