Program Description:

Graduate education is built upon a close working relationship between students and established scholars. Candidates for the M.A. pursue a course of study designed to develop a broad knowledge of the field. Doctoral students are encouraged to devise individualized programs that meet their needs and interests. Small seminars provide an ideal forum for the development of research interests, and the department frequently hosts visiting senior scholars who teach in the graduate program and participate in the intellectual life of the university community.
