Program Description:
Integrative and Evolutionary Biology (IEB) Graduate Program in Biology is a highly inter-disciplinary program that targets emerging areas at the interface of genomics, evolution, and physiology. Molecular biologists need to be able to interpret changes in gene expression in the context of how an organism functions or develops, and organismal biologists need to have access to the powerful tools of computational and experimental molecular biology. Figuring out what genes actually do in an integrative sense is the challenge of the future. The IEB program brings together scientists who are expert in analyzing reduced levels of organization (such as genes and molecules) with scientists who have expertise in addressing higher-order complex questions (pertaining to whole organisms and systems of organisms). The IEB program incorporates faculty from different schools and departments with research interests in evolution, genetics, computational biology, biomechanics, physiology, metabolism, neuroscience, and molecular biology.
