Program Description:
The goal is to provide a rigorous, intensive graduate education experience involving close interaction with faculty. The M.A. program prepares students for professional careers in human geography, including private sector marketing and locational analysis, public facilities locationplanning, and urban planning analysis. The M.S. program prepares students for careers as physical geographers and environmental managers. A central component of the master's programs is to develop skills in the conduct of applied research. The Doctor of Philosophy in geography prepares students for roles as university professors or researchers, senior public sector analysts, and private sector consultants. The degree emphasizes the identification of key research problems and the production of original research. Human geographers in the department specialize in populationgeography, social theory, urban and social geography, human-environment relations, and environmental ethics. The physical geography program is focused on process geomorphology, particularly coastal zone and fluvial environments.
