Program Description:


You will have access to specialist staff and facilities in the areas of Painting, Printmaking, Sculpture, Fine Art by Project (site-specific work). Whilst recognising the importance of specialist skills, we acknowledge that fine art practice is increasingly multi- and cross-disciplinary. Students work towards a self-defined project, challenging and honing its parameters with feedback from tutors and peers. Our purpose-built studios and technical workshops allow you to experiment, and the programme provides a solid foundation for PhD research and excellent training for a career as a practising artist or in a related area of the creative industries, including skills in designing and managing research;critical analysis of your own and others' practice; creative and lateral thinking; teamwork;exhibition installation; exhibition management, catalogue and invitation production;positioning your work within the context of current debate; visual and verbal presentations; writing applications .Practices encompassed include: drawing, mixed-media installation, painting, sculpture, print, photography, time-based and web-based practice. Specialist areas and approaches: By Project (Site): The programme has access to a number of different kinds of spaces,which can be booked to test and expand site-specific ideas. You will learn how to: critically evaluate your own practice through the subject of a site; examine the role of documentation in site-specific working practices Painting: With a focus on studio-based study, you will explore traditional techniques, current methods and interdisciplinary approaches, underpinned by contextual thinking.
