Program Information

Degree Offered

M.F.A.-Art Studio

Format: Campus

Program Description:

The M.F.A. Studio Program has been carefully designed by the School of Art and Art History faculty as a course of study that will maximize a student's potential for in depth exploration of his or her chosen artistic ideas, mediums, themes and theories. M.F.A. students are expected to be in the program full time and to have made a commitment to graduate study. Program participants can elect to pursue their studies in a primary discipline such as painting, sculpture, printmaking, electronic media, or they may choose to work in a variety of media and/or cross media. Numerous opportunities such as field trips, international study and internships complement the rigorous academic and artistic requirements. Students have private studios 24/7 and access to all shops, labs and computer centers. An exhibition space for students is adjacent to the MFA studios. We seek to become the top medium-size MFA program in the nation. Our assistantships include tuition waivers and offer more than $200,000 in financial aid to our graduate students each year. We also offer solo teaching to our best graduate students. We admit about 20% of all applicants to this competitive program each year.

Eligibility Requirements:

Seminars in art and art history; professional practices course, elective outside the department, studio classes and independent work with studio faculty. Very open and flexible and to be developed by the student with advisor and faculty.
