Program Description:
Gerontology is the study of the process of human aging in all its aspects: physical, psychological, and social. The gerontology programs at the University of South Florida have a particular focus on applied gerontology. Through research, teaching, and service to the community, students are encouraged to apply research on aging to clinical and policy issues that are of increasing importance in our aging society.The School of Aging Studies offers the Degree of Master's of Arts in Gerontology, with either a thesis or non-thesis option. In addition to completing a required core curriculum, students may select gerontology courses suited to their particular career goals. These include courses focused on such diverse areas as research, program administration, and direct service.Applications are accepted continuously throughout the year.The School of Aging Studies has initiated several certificate programs designed to supplement its existing BA, BS, MA and Ph.D. offerings. These programs are designed to serve the needs of persons interested in gerontology, but not seeking a degree in this area of study. These courses are all offered at night and can be completed on a part-time basis.Graduate certificate program can be completed within four to six graduate courses. No GRE is required.
