Program Description:
Students become involved in ongoing research projects during the first year in laboratory rotations and identify a dissertation advisor during this period or shortly thereafter. During the second year of the Ph.D. program, the student finishes most of the required coursework and may qualify to take a broad-based preliminary examination consisting of written and oral components. Upon satisfactory completion of this examination, the student is formally admitted to the Department.
