Program Description:
Historical archaeology at Sheffield is the archaeology of literate societies - from Minoan Crete to early modern world (and including Greece, Rome and medieval Europe). Sheffield is home to one of the largest communities of historical archaeologists in UK universities, and this programme draws heavily on their wide-ranging and groundbreaking research - particularly into the relationship between material culture and texts. This focus contributes to the interdisciplinary nature of a programme embraces the department´s expertise in (amongst others) landscape archaeology, material culture studies, and archaeological science. The programme will be of interest to all who want to deepen their understanding of European societies from classical Greece to early modernity, or to explore the ways in which objects and documents can be used to write more nuanced histories - and will appeal especially to students who wish to create a strong platform for doctoral research in any aspect of European historical archaeology.
International Student Requirements:
IELTS 6.0 (with no less than 5 in each part), or TOEFL 550 with TWE 4.5 (paper based) or TOEFL 213, TWE 4.5 (computer based) or TEOFL 79-80 (IBT), or equivalent.
