Program Description:

Sustainable use of marine areas is rapidly growing in political and practical importance in the UK, Europe and internationally. The demands on the marine environment are increasing in intensity and range and policy responses are consequently required. These are being developed taking into consideration social, economic and environmental concerns and among the responses proposed marine planning is regarded as of substantial importance. MSc Marine Policy and Planning aims to provide the knowledge and skills for individuals to work in this area, whether developing policy, implementing planning, managing marine and coastal environments or undertaking research.

Eligibility Requirements:

A good honours degree in a subject such as environmental, geographical or biological sciences, economics, sociology and marine studies.

There is no specific subject requirement but relevant knowledge and interest in the marine environment whether from a social, environmental or economic perspective will be sought.

Students can exceptionally apply for exemption from any modules through APEL or APCL (Accredited Prior Experiential or Credited Learning), following standard university procedures. Non-UK qualifications may be cross checked with UK universities and by consulting the ENIC - NARIC network. Relevant work experience may be taken into consideration.

International Student Requirements:

Applicants with overseas qualifications can check their comparability with the UK equivalent through NARIC, who provide an advisory service. If your first language is not English then evidence of English proficiency is required. The level of proficiency that is required can vary with the type of programme for which you are applying. For further advice on the appropriateness of overseas qualification and proficiency in the use of English, please contact our International Office. The minimum IELTS score for acceptable English proficiency for entry is normally 6.5.
