Master of Prevention Science
Format: Online
Program Description:
The Master of Prevention Science (MPS) is a new and innovative degree program at the cutting edge of a unique field of study. The goal of the program is to enhance the knowledge, professionalism, and effectiveness of individuals currently working in prevention science and others preparing for a career in prevention science. The program was specifically designed to provide an academic preparation for those individuals interested in pursuing the International Certification and Reciprocity Consortium's Certified Prevention Specialist.
The MPS is a 33-credit hour master's degree, the first 18 hours of which are considered program core requirements. The remaining 15 hours are guided electives in the fields of prevention science, human and health services, and administrative leadership that allow students to develop their own unique course of study that culminates in a thesis, research project, or comprehensive examination.
Prevention Science began evolving as a distinct field in the late 1980s and early 1990s. Since that time, a professional association, the Society for Prevention Research, and a peer-reviewed journal, Prevention Science, have been launched. With the introduction of our MPS degree, we have added a multidisciplinary training and education program to accompany and support the field of prevention science.
