Program Description:
The Program in the History and Philosophy of Sciences offers courses over a wide range of topics in the history of science, from medieval natural philosophy to the physics, biology, medicine, and technology of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Particular emphases and resources of the Notre Dame program lie in medieval natural philosophy and medicine; the Scientific Revolution of the seventeenth century; the history of astronomy, physics, and mathematics; intellectual and social history of nineteenth-century science and medicine; the history and philosophy of technology; the history and philosophy of economic thought; and the history and philosophy of modern life science.
