Program Description:

The Department of History offers programs in three major areas of study: medieval history, modern European history, and United States history. The medieval history programÆs strength lies in the cultural and religious history of medieval Christendom and the socioeconomic history of medieval England and the Mediterranean world. Notre Dame offers a well-established program in European history, with particular strengths in religious, intellectual, and social history. The department is noted for its strength in American religious, cultural, and intellectual history. Other areas of concentration for advanced study include political and diplomatic history, the American West and frontier, womenÆs, Native American, African American, and social history.
