Program Description:

The online Master's Degree in Special Education prepares you to serve students with mild to moderate disabilities by qualifying you to:
-Diagnose difficulties for children and young adults.
-Plan curricular approaches.
-Develop and deliver instructional programs with the help of other pertinent professionals in the school.
-Work with students in one of the following emphasis areas:

-General Special Education
-Autistic Spectrum Disorders
-Development/Cognitive Disabilities
-Early Childhood Special Education
-Emotional Disturbance
-Gifted/Talented
-Learning Disabilities
-Special Education Strategist
-Visual Impairment

With the online Master's Degree in Special Education, you will:
-Learn concepts, practices, and approaches that benefit children with various difficulties.
-Apply what you have learned in a practicum/internship setting so you can further refine diagnostic and prescriptive skills with children and young adults.
-View your specialty within the broader context of the school setting by becoming familiar with issues, trends, and research that mark contemporary education.

Fully online, you will participate in some classes that are conducted "live" over the internet at set times that are convenient for most students. In addition, you will participate in weekly chat sessions using Web-conferencing technology. You are NOT required to come to campus at any time.

Eligibility Requirements:

-Bachelor's Degree in Education or in areas such as:
-Social Work
-Communication Disorders
-Nursing
-Physical Therapy

-An undergraduate GPA of 2.75 overall or a GPA of 3.00 in the last 2 years of your undergraduate program.

-Submission of a one-page, personal statement to include career history and highlights, honors and achievements, skills relevant to the profession, and personal/professional goals.

If English is not your native language, you must complete the TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) prior to admission. If you have received a bachelor’s degree or higher from the United States or English-speaking Canada, you are not required to fulfill the English test requirement.
