Program Description:
The Department of Counseling Psychology and Community Services offers graduate programs leading to the Master of Arts in Counseling and Doctor of Philosophy in Counseling Psychology.The Doctor of Philosophy in Counseling Psychology is accredited by the American Psychological Association (APA). Graduates of the M.A. program are eligible to apply for licensure as a school Counselor in North Dakota as well as other states. Completion of the M.A. program partially fulfills requirements for certification as a School Counselor or certification as a Certified Rehabilitation Counselor or licensure as an Addiction Counselor in North Dakota. The Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology provides preparation for licensure as a Psychologist in North Dakota, as well as other states. To encourage students who are majoring in Rehabilitation and Human Services to extend their studies to include a graduate degree, the Department offers a Combined Program in Counseling with a Rehabilitation Emphasis. The Combined Program allows students to earn a bachelor’s degree in Rehabilitation and Human Services and a master’s degree in Counseling with a Rehabilitation Emphasis in approximately five years. This would be a year less than is typically required to complete these degrees separately.

UND is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. UND also holds many special accreditations at the college, department, or program level.
Eligibility Requirements:
Applicants who are seeking admission to Graduate School must meet all of the minimum general graduate school admission requirements identified in the Graduate School Catalog. In addition, the prospective students must fulfill the requirements for admission to the graduate program to which they are applying.
International Student Requirements:
All graduate applicants must demonstrate academic-level proficiency with the English language before they will be considered for admission. This requirement must be met by all applicants, regardless of citizenship, residency, or nation of birth. No applicants will be considered for admission until the English Language Proficiency is met. Please refer to the Academic Catalog for ways in which this requirement can be met.
