Program Description:
The Sport and Exercise Psychology program is housed in the Department of Exercise and Sport Science (ESS) and is located in the Health and Human Performance Building (HHP). Currently, both Master's and Doctoral degrees are awarded in Sport and Exercise Psychology. Current faculty includes Dr. Diane Gill, Dr. Dan Gould, and Dr. Jeff Katula. The laboratory provides an environment of academic and professional excellence. The mission of the UNCG Sport and Exercise Psychology laboratory is to enhance human development and functioning by acquiring cutting edge knowledge and providing the highest quality services that contribute to the development of the field of Sport and Exercise Psychology. In particular, activities conducted in the laboratory focus on achieving one of three general objectives: (1) understanding how and helping individuals develop and utilize mental skills to enhance sport and physical activity performance; (2) determining how participation in sport and physical activity can facilitate psychological development and well-being; (3) providing the highest quality Sport and Exercise Psychology education to students studying the area.The mission of the Applied Neuromechanics Research Laboratory is to advance the body of knowledge concerning the prevention, evaluation and treatment of movement related disease and injury throughout the lifespan. This goal is achieved by a multidisciplinary laboratory faculty conducting applied research using the quantitative techniques of electromyography, kinematics, kinetics and isokinetics.
