Master of Science program in Interior Architecture
Program Description:
The Master of Science program in Interior Architecture provides opportunities for students to undertake advanced research and design investigations on topics related to architectural interiors, and to develop specialization in selected areas of individual interest. The design studio is the nucleus of the program and is taken concurrently with :1) courses in design and research methods, 2) courses that expand the base of knowledge relating to both user needs and environments that serve those needs, and 3) seminars devoted to pertinent issues of environmental design. Students can select a field of study that matches with current IAR faculty's area of research or choose one of the existing graduate concentrations offered by the department: Historic Preservation, Interior Product Design, and Museum Studies. The Master of Science program in Interior Architecture is a post-professional degree program.
Eligibility Requirements:
An undergraduate professional degree in interior architecture or interior design is preferred. Graduates of related environmental design programs, such as architecture or industrial design, can be admitted but may be required to complete specific undergraduate prerequisite courses. The UNCG Graduate School (a) requires transcripts, (b) GRE scores, and (c) letters of recommendation from all applicants. Applicants should have a minimum 3.0 grade point average in undergraduate work. In addition, the IAR department requires (d) a portfolio of design work, (e) one to two page personal statement, and (f) interview. Applicants are strongly encouraged to submit complete applications by March 1 for full consideration. Those applying for the post-baccalaureate certificate are strongly encouraged to apply no later than April 1. Priority for admissions and graduate assistantships will be given to applications received before March 1.
