Media CommunicationsThe discipline of Media and Communications provides students with a sophisticated understanding of the history, scope and socio-cultural impact of new media technologies, and of the debates that have accompanied their development and use. It focuses, in addition, on new computer-based multimedia and Australian media industries in relation to globalisation.Film StudiesThe discipline of Film Studies involves the investigation of film from a variety of critical, theoretical and historical perspectives. Students are introduced to key cultural and institutional forces in the cinema industry and are also encouraged to explore the impact of technological and economic, as well as aesthetic, factors on film.Theatre and Performance StudiesTheatre Studies engages both theory and practice, and may include focus areas such as practical exercises, key concepts and practices of theatre, the study of historical topics such as Shakespeare, contemporary performance theory and practice, new media arts, critical theory, gender and performance, comedy, cinema spectatorship, and creative courses in writing for the stage or performance making.
