Program Information

Degree Offered

M.S.-Industrial Engineering; M.S.-Industrial Engineering/M.B.A. Dual Degree Program

Format: Campus

Program Description:

Industrial engineering is the traditional name for the engineering discipline that concentrates on making things and getting things done effectively, efficiently, and with high quality. Today, industrial engineering plays a major role in manufacturing and in the technical service industries— from automobiles to aerospace, from computers to medical devices, from package delivery to hospitality— covering every conceivable product and service where the customer demands high quality, reliability, and on-time delivery at competitive prices. The modern industrial engineer works in many different areas including production, quality, supply chain, logistics, lean/six sigma, and systems engineering. The program leading to the master of science degree in industrial engineering (M.S.I.E.) is intended to meet the needs of professionally employed engineers working in an environment where cost effectiveness, high productivity, and effective use of resources are crucial. The program is designed to give students an advanced level of training beyond the baccalaureate, sufficient to prepare for leadership roles in industry.
The Graduate School has always encouraged interdisciplinary studies. To foster a broader expertise in the areas of business administration and industrial engineering, a student can earn degrees in both fields by successfully completing the dual degree program.

The program is intended for students with undergraduate engineering or technical degrees from programs accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology, or demonstrated equivalent. Students entering this program are expected to be competent in mathematics through calculus. Those with insufficient mathematics background will be required to take approved mathematics courses (e.g. M 610 Fundamentals of Calculus) outside/in addition to the program requirements.
