Maximum Opportunities - Solid Foundation:
The BRTP offers students the opportunity to explore a variety of research laboratories and academic programs before deciding on a research laboratory and a PhD-granting department. Students rotate through any of the more than 130 laboratories affiliated with the 5 basic science departments: Biochemistry & Molecular Biology, Genetics, Cell Biology & Anatomy, Pathology & Microbiology, Pharmacology & Experimental Neuroscience, Cellular & Integrative Physiology and the Cancer Graduate Research Program. This includes nearly all of the UNMC research laboratories since most research faculty in other departments and institutes at UNMC have adjunct appointments in a basic science department. Biomedical Ph.D. training at UNMC prepares students for a variety of job opportunities in academia (teaching and/or research), industry (research and/or management), and other related fields. Students also have the opportunity to obtain a certificate in Business for Bioscientists which provides a basic background in business. All Ph.D. students at UNMC receive tuition remission, an annual stipend, and medical insurance.

UNMC has state-of-the-art research facilities, recently adding over 500,000 square feet of research space in two - 8 story research buildings. With over 40 research core facilities available, essentially all modern biomedical research approaches are available for student research projects.
