Program Description:
The 13 credit hour Insect Biology for Educators Graduate Certificate program is designed to provide continuing education for teachers and other educators in the biological sciences. Students will learn to implement inquiry-based lesson plans for their classrooms or workshops and can complete the certificate part time. Students who complete the program will be awarded a certificate from the University of Nebraska–Lincoln.
All courses in the program are delivered online.

To earn the certificate, participants must first be admitted to the program and then complete the six designated courses.
•ENTO 802 - Aquatic Insects (2 cr) Prerequisite: 12 hrs biological sciences or permission. This course explores the biology and ecology of aquatic insects.
•ENTO 802L - Identification of Aquatic Insects (1 cr) Prerequisite: Must be taken parallel with ENTO 802. This is the lab for ENTO 802, it covers identification of aquatic insects to the family level.
•ENTO 806 - Insect Ecology (3 cr) Prerequisite: undergraduate biology or permission. This course covers the interrelationships of the biotic and abiotic factors as they influence insect development, behavior, distribution, and abundance.
•ENTO 810 - Insects as Educational Tools for the Classroom (3 cr) Prerequisite: Introductory entomology course or permission. This course integrates the study of insects into the classroom to enhance science education and covers insect diversity, insect structure and function, insect ecology and behavior, and the beneficial and detrimental roles of insects.
•ENTO 991 - Advanced Topics in Entomology (1 cr) Prerequisite: Permission. This course offers advanced study of selected topics not presented in established courses.
•TEAC 842 - Objectives and Methods of Science Teaching (3 cr) The development of objectives, course offerings, and organization of subject matter and methods of instruction in science courses is coved in this class as well as current national science education curriculum trends.

Eligibility Requirements:
To participate in this program the student must have:
•Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts degree from an accredited college or university
•Undergraduate GPA of 3.0 or better required for full graduate standing
?GPA of less than 3.0 will be considered on an individual basis for provisional admission, but students accepted on provisional admission must establish acceptable academic performance in their first semester to continue in the graduate program
•Undergraduate coursework which includes math, chemistry, and biology. A limited number of deficiencies in coursework can be made up during the graduate program, but these will not count towards the degree
