Program Description:

The public health nursing and school health nursing areas of study combine online course work and a clinical practicum in the student's geographic area. The program provides the knowledge and skills necessary to work with populations where there is an interface between public health, community health, school health and nursing, as an administrator, coordinator or director of a public health agency, state public health and medical care programs, community outreach for hospitals, health centers, health-related associates, home health agencies, managed-care plans, nonprofit agencies (e.g. the American Heart Association, March of Dimes, United Way etc.), school health programs or parish nursing programs. Graduates with an expanded role also qualify to be nurse researchers for health-care institutions, community nurse liaisons for outpatient facility services or consultants to hospitals, home health agencies, day-care centers and other health-care agencies. The program requires 36-39 semester credit hours of online course work and a supervised clinical practicum.
