Program Information

Degree Offered

Master of Science (MS) in Nursing, with a clinical specialty of Pediatric Nurse Practitioner

Format: Online

Program Description:

The MU Sinclair School of Nursing offers the master of science in nursing with a clinical specialty of pediatric nurse practitioner program by combining online course work, campus seminars and preceptored clinical experiences, within the student's geographic area. The program emphasizes care for special-needs children and management practices in rural, underserved areas in Missouri. It is designed for professionals with a bachelorÆs in nursing who have one year of pediatric nursing experience and Missouri RN licensure, masterÆs-prepared family nurse practitioners with a special interest in children, and pediatric advanced practice nurses who are interested in expanding their scope of practice to care for children and adolescents, especially those with special needs. Students develop clinical skills that include age-appropriate health assessment and management of the pediatric population, learn how to provide well-child care and are a part of a diverse student group in a forward-looking program within a top-ranked school in the Midwest. This program is a cooperative effort among three University of Missouri system campuses: Columbia, Kansas City and St. Louis. Students obtain the basics of pediatric nurse practitioner education via Internet courses. Clinical courses require approximately two days per semester at the campus in Columbia. Nurses applying for the post-master's certificate must have a master of science in nursing from an accredited program.
