Program Description:

The Graduate Program in Neuroscience at the University of Minnesota includes the study of topics such as molecular, cellular, systems, developmental, and computational neuroscience and behavioral neurobiology, which lead to the Ph.D. degree. Coursework provides students with a solid foundation in each of the major areas of neuroscience, plus the opportunity to do cutting edge research with world famous neuroscientists. Our doctoral program offers students more than 100 diverse and highly productive faculty who conduct well-funded research that covers the entire spectrum of neuroscience from the molecular biology of ion channels to the highly complex processes that underlie human cognition. In an environment that thrives on collaboration, the opportunities for students to partake in multidisciplinary research are abound. Our graduate students come from a variety of backgrounds and have diverse scientific interests.

Eligibility Requirements:

A GPA of 3.5 and a GRE score reaching at least the 80th percentile (for all three sections) are typical of students admitted into the program. All prospective students are required to complete and submit an application, three letters of recommendation and a personal statement about your ambitions and motivations for a research career. Application deadline is December 15.

International Student Requirements:

To give you an indication of the criteria that are necessary for the initial consideration of your application, your TOEFL score should be at or above 625 or 6.5 on the IELTS; your GPA should be 3.5 or better; and your total GRE score should be 2000 or greater, under the old 200-800 scoring system, or 1300/4.5 under the new scoring criteria implemented in October 2002.
