Program Description:
The Doctor of Philosophy in Oral Health Sciences (OHS) is a program of the Horace H. Rackham School of Graduate Studies offered through the School of Dentistry. This program is most appropriate for advanced students who will join the faculty of an outstanding dental school. Major areas of study include: craniofacial development; mineralized tissue biology & musculoskeletal disorders; oral infectious & immunologic diseases; oral & pharyngeal cancer; oral sensory systems & central circuits; and, tissue engineering & regeneration. The OHS Program Faculty have active research programs and laboratory groups usually with cross-school collaborations; interest and experience in mentoring students across predoctoral, graduate and postdoctoral levels; teaching and service that includes Ph.D. courses and participation in seminar/journal club activities. Student Initiated Dual Degree programs include D.D.S./OHS Ph.D. and Specialty M.S./OHS Ph.D. Dual degree prospects must apply and be accepted into each program. Admitted students are offered funding support that includes tuition, health insurance and a living stipend. The typical program length for the Ph.D. Program is 5 years and the Student Initiated Dual Degree Programs are estimated to take up to 8 years.
