M.A., Ph.D.

Format: Campus

Program Description:

German Studies at Michigan has a unique intellectual profile which unites a strong emphasis on interdisciplinary inquiry with a pronounced effort to engage with current debates in the humanities at large. The key component of this is a truly interdisciplinary faculty representing, in addition to literary criticism and theory, the fields of film studies, history, art history, and sociology. Its faculty comprises scholars who hold advanced degrees and joint appointments in other disciplines, and who engage in interdisciplinary research. This thoroughly interdisciplinary approach allows students to develop highly original research and curricular projects and to be qualified to teach German studies in departments of literature, history, cultural studies, feminist studies, sociology, art history, and in interdisciplinary programs.
