M.S.- Anesthesia

Program Description:

The University of Michigan-Flint’s School of Health Professions and Studies offers the Master of Science Degree in Anesthesia through the Department of Health Sciences and Administration in conjunction with Hurley Medical Center in Flint.

This two-year, full-time program provides registered nurses the opportunity to acquire the knowledge and skills required to enter into anesthesia practice as a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist. The MS in Anesthesia curriculum integrates clinical experience with classroom instruction.

The MS in Anesthesia program faculty are dedicated to helping students achieve full professional competency. In addition to administering anesthesia and monitoring patients during surgery, these competencies include selecting and administering pre-operative medication and anesthesia and managing post-operative recovery from anesthesia.

The program combines academic and clinical anesthesia courses taught at the University of Michigan-Flint and Hurley Medical Center.

At the completion of the program, a Master of Science in Anesthesia degree is granted by the University of Michigan-Flint. Graduates are then eligible to take the National Certification Examination. Successful completion of the exam is required to practice as a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist.

The program is full time and requires a time commitment that will exceed 40 hours per week; therefore, student employment is not recommended.
