Program Description:

The American Theatre concentration is a vigorous program that combines applied and theoretical studies. It emphasizes the creation of a sense of community through the arts and including local communities (contexts) in that process. The program enables students to create new works in collaboration with other artists with an emphasis on devising theatre or exploring methods in creative dramatics. It addresses these major audiences:

-Teachers who wish to upgrade their skills and obtain a Master's degree that includes work in area theatres, schools, and other settings
-Teachers who are interested in improving their skills to qualify to work in school plays, or bring theatrical methods to the classroom
-Theatre artists, company managers, and community liaisons interested in augmenting their skills and acquiring additional theatre credentials
-Community leaders who seek to explore how drama can create community by exploring and performing local and regional narratives
