Program Description:

The Department of Geological Sciences offers broad-based training in geology and geophysics. Special areas of research emphasis include: seismological and neotectonic studies of the New Madrid Seismic zone (with the Center for Earthquake Research and Information), geochemical and hydrogeological studies of the Memphis aquifer system (with the Ground Water Institute), stratigraphic and geochemical studies of carbonate strata, ancient lake deposits, and boron deposits.
