Degree Offered

Master of Accounting

Format: Campus

Program Description:

The Master of Accounting is an advanced, specialised degree for accountants. It provides you with a broad understanding of the key contemporary issues in accounting and develops a set of specific competencies representing advanced professional skills. The Master of Accounting builds your capabilities in leading edge accounting and business systems practices and develops skills in business analysis, critical and strategic thinking, problem solving, and oral and written communication. The course is designed to stimulate your awareness of existing and emerging issues, and advance your skills in identifying and solving accounting and business problems of an applied nature.

The Master of Accounting program is ideally suited to recent accounting graduates and junior executives with an accounting degree who wish to extend their skills and knowledge in the core areas of the discipline. Students with a Bachelor degree in accounting, especially from countries outside of Australia, should seek accreditation of their degree from Certified Practising Accountants (CPA) Australia.

You may choose to undertake an optional research semester as your final semester. This develops your skills in conducting research, including identifying and formulating relevant research questions, accessing accounting data from a range of sources and applying this data in the pursuit of those research questions. Entry to the research semester will be dependent upon attaining a GPA of 80 in your prior Master of Accounting subjects and/or subject to the Program Director’s approval.

The Master of Accounting is offered in two streams depending on your level of work experience. The 12 subject program is open to accounting graduates with at least one year of work experience. If you do not have work experience, please refer to the 16 subject program.

Accreditation:

If you have successfully completed the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia PY/CA Program or the CPA Australia CPA Program you may receive credit for up to four elective Master of Accounting subjects.
