Program Description:
UMass Boston's Ph.D. Program in Gerontology is designed to prepare students for leadership roles as teachers, researchers, planners, and policy makers in this field of growing importance for both the private and the public sectors. The program's approach reflects the urban mission of the University of Massachusetts Boston. Special attention is given to the needs of the low-income elderly, and to issues of racial and cultural diversity.The MS Program(s) will help to produce a new generation of gerontologists prepared to assist the city of Boston, the state of Massachusetts, and the nation to address a number of issues surrounding a diverse aging population. The MS Program will serve the needs of students who are committed to the aging field and who want a Masters degree.The Graduate Certificate in Gerontology is designed to provide students with a broad overview of issues in gerontology.
