Program Description:
The Integrated Biomedical Sciences (IBS) is a first-year core curriculum for the six doctoral programs at the University of Kentucky College of Medicine. Students are first admitted to IBS and choose a dissertation mentor and doctoral program at the conclusion of the IBS year. The IBS curriculum provides a foundation curriculum in molecular and cellular biology, development of interdisciplinary approaches essential to innovative research, and flexibility in choosing a research emphasis among over 130 faculty in six departments. For FY2004, the University of Kentucky College of Medicine received over $100 million in grants and contracts to support basic science and clinical research.
