Program Information
Degree Offered
M.A. - Sociology, Ph.D. - Sociology
Format: Campus
Program Description:
The KU Sociology Department is a vibrant community of about 50 graduate students and 20 faculty members. From our pool of applicants, we welcome 7-10 new students into the graduate program each year. Our Department is small enough to allow students to develop mentor-relationships with the faculty members while engaging in a rigorous program of study that focuses heavily on sociological theory, equips students in research skills, and allows them to pursue their interests in a variety of substantive fields.
The graduate program allows students to develop programs emphasizing traditional and nontraditional specialties in sociology or a combination of sociology and related fields. Students can readily develop programs of study in each of the following fields: family, life course & aging, gender, sexuality, globalization, migration, medicine / health, political sociology, race & ethnicity, social inequality / stratification, culture, religion, and economic sociology.
