Program Description:

The Department of Spanish and Portuguese offers both an M.A. and a Ph.D. in Spanish. The Master of Arts program aims to provide training in literary analysis and linguistic structure, to provide a thorough knowledge of principal areas of Hispanic literature and Hispanic linguistics, and to help develop the candidate's oral and written language skills to a high degree of proficiency. At the Ph.D. level, two programs are available. One is dedicated to Hispanic literatures and one to Spanish linguistics. In literary studies, students are trained in textual analysis and literary history, criticism, and theory; in linguistic studies, students are trained in linguistic analysis and theory.
