Program Description:

Master of Arts in Science Teaching (M.A.T.)
This degree is designed primarily for those who decide that they would like to become teachers and have already completed a B.S. and B.A. in an area of science. It features advanced work in science along with the courses required for certification. It is a means by which candidates can attain a Master's degree and certification at the same time. This degree program assumes the candidate has completed considerable science, at least 56 s.h., as an undergraduate, but no previous course work in education.

Master of Science (M.S.) in Science Education
Applicants must meet the admission requirements of the Graduate College. The Master of Science (M.S.) program in science education assumes that candidates have completed an undergraduate major in a given science area (or combination of science areas), science education, or in elementary education with a science emphasis. Teaching licensure/certification is recommended.

Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Science Education
The Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) program in Science Education is appropriate for those who aspire to college and university positions as science educators; major supervisory posts in national, state, and local systems; teachers in small liberal arts colleges; instructors of general education science courses at major universities; positions as research directors in science education; or positions in medical and/or allied health education.
