Program Information
Degree Offered
M.A;, Ph.D.
Format: Campus
Program Description:
The M.A. is viewed as a general degree that equips the student to teach any phase of anthropology at the introductory level. It may serve as a steppingstone to the Ph.D. degree in anthropology or in some other field, or as a limited professional degree qualifying its recipient for certain types of employment generally not involving continuing independent research. The Ph.D. degree represents a balance between a general competence in the four major sub fields of anthropology obtained at the M.A. level, and a professional level ofspecialization in one. Training in the specialization will be guided by a Ph.D. committee composed of members of the faculty competent in the particular areas and topics chosen by the student.
