Program Description:
The economic geography and interdisciplinary regional science programs are linked within the department.The environmental studies in physical geography program focuses upon faculty research interests: fluvial, soils, and periglacial geomorphology, plus biogeography. The program emphasizes theoretical, field, and laboratory components of research so that students gain a comprehensive background in physical geography regardless of their specialties within the sub-discipline.The geography of urban and rural development program emphasizes urban geography, both in American and international contexts and Third World development. The program takes advantage of the fact that the university is a world leader in international research and draws upon the faculty and library resources in a number of cognate disciplines.
