Program Information

Degree Offered

Early Childhood Education (M.Ed.)

Format: Campus

Program Description:

The Early Childhood Education concentration in the M.Ed. in Instructional Leadership blends regular early childhood education with early childhood special education. This concentration reflects what is currently known about best practices in early childhood teacher preparation and prepares teacher candidates to meet the needs of children with and without disabilities in all settings, with an emphasis on urban schools. Teacher candidates will engage in field placements at the preschool level and the primary grades in schools that represent the diverse background of students and families across the district.

The program has two strands: Strand 1 leads to the M.Ed. with a State of Illinois Type 04 Teaching Certificate and an endorsement in Early Childhood Special Education; graduates of Strand II earn the degree only.
