Program Information

Degree Offered

Professional Science Masters

Format: Campus, Online

Program Description:

The creation of the PSM degree tracks in Natural Resources and Environmental Science is driven by a keen awareness that the triple bottom line of sustainability as it relates to the economy, environment and social equity is too complicated to be addressed by a single discipline. The PSM is intended to be an endpoint, and not necessarily a stepping stone to the PhD.

This interdisciplinary foundation will build broad-based practical skills such as:

•Communications
•Project management
•Business management
•Computational skills
•Ethics
•Legal and regulatory issues
•Leadership

In addition to their coursework, students will develop professional skills in consultation with prospective employers, through internships, and through problem-based projects sponsored by employers and University of Idaho faculty. This will allow graduates to quickly bring advanced science skills to the workplace.

Academic Program Tracks include:
•Sustainability Science
•Environmental Contamination
•Climate Change
•Water Resources Management
•Management of Regulated River Systems
•Ecohydrology Science and Management

Accreditation:

The University of Idaho is accredited by the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities, which recognizes our compliance with its standards of higher education.

Eligibility Requirements:

Preference will be given to students holding a BS in biological, environmental, or natural resource sciences, or fields closely related to these sciences. Also appropriate are undergraduate degrees in Civil Engineering and Biological and Agricultural Engineering, depending on the interest area identified by the student. (Required minimum GPA is 3.0)
