Program Information
Degree Offered
M.Sc.- Numerical Software, Pg. Dip.- Numerical Software
Program Description:
This is a conversion Master's degree/postgraduate diploma program available by part-time study only. It is aimed at mature graduates of a scientific or technological discipline who have encountered mathematical problems needing to be solved using computer techniques. This could have arisen in the workplace or during your first degree. The solution of complex mathematical problems occurring in engineering, science and commerce depends crucially on the availability of reliable and efficient software. There is a continuing need for such software to be updated and extended in response to new solution techniques or the increasing demands of its users. This program explains the mathematical and computational principles behind software packages that can be used in such applications as the design of buildings or the analysis of temperatures and pressure in an aero engine. You need not have specific knowledge of numerical techniques but it is expected that you will understand the importance of, and have a real interest in, such approaches to the solution of mathematical problems. You should also have some familiarity with using computers and be able to write simple computer programs.
