Program Description:

This program gives you the necessary skills to cope in the world of rapidly developing communications technology. The modern telecommunications revolution has made such items as portable mobile phones and real-time video links everyday items with further expansion set to develop in the future. Modern communications systems combine state-of-the-art digital technology with more traditional concepts to develop exciting new possibilities in the commercial and industrial sectors. The course fundamentals include analogue and digital modulation and demodulation in the presence of noise, transmission lines and electromagnetic antennae and propagation. These topics are developed to cover spread spectrum communication systems, cellular radio, local area wireless networks, frequency synthesis and satellite communications systems. The data communications module introduces students to advanced datacommunications concepts and principles together with the operation of the main types of current networking technologies and management issues within the information technology environment. Topics such as wide area network protocols are dealt with using examples taken from the most recent commercial implementations.
