Program Description:
Art Therapy is a well established discipline with a developing theoretical base. The profession is recognised by the NHS and Social Services and in addition many practitioners work in schools, prisons and the voluntary sector. This diploma leads to an award that is recognised for professional registration purposes within the UK. In addition to the taught courses at the University, you undertake clinical placements in educational, community care and mental health settings. The course provides a balance of theoretical, practical and clinical components based on the application of art to therapy. The curriculum includes human development, psychodynamics, the psychopathology of art and an insight into current art therapeutic practices with a range of client groups. Studio practice provides the opportunity for your continuing artisticdevelopment over the two years of study (full-time) or three years of study (part-time).
